My GIS Work In Bisho
At ECSECC (Eastern Cape Socio-Economic Consultative Council) I am responsible for assisting in GIS development in the Eastern Cape Province. This includes assisting the coordination of GIS resources in the province, including data and GIS training.
The Eastern Cape Province of South Africa has a large infrastructural backlog. GIS is being used to assist in planning for example where health clinics, roads and schools are most necessary. In the past (and still in some places) health and educational facilities and development projects have been implemented on an ad hoc basis. GIS can help to prioritise where scarce resources / money should be spent. For example which roads need more attention first? Some areas may have a lot of schools, but a small population, while other areas have a larger population, but a limited number of schools. GIS will be used to address such problems.
